Yinz Hungry?
Being a Pittsburgh native, I might be biased, but there’s truly so many reasons to love this city. One of the biggest reasons is the food scene. It seems like almost every month a new restaurant or cafe is popping up. The same can be said about the next few months. We’re all really in for a treat.
Recently Opened:
Bae Bae’s Cafe – Downtown
If you’re a fan of Bae Bae’s Kitchen then get ready for their sister restaurant down the street. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter’s tea party, this cute little spot feels like you’re sipping tea with the Queen of Hearts. The cafe will offer a similar menu as the kitchen in addition to desserts, pastries, boba drinks and rotating monthly soup and sandwich pairings.
Lola’s Eatery – Lawrenceville
Nestled inside Engine House 25 Winery and next door to the Clemente Museum, this little breakfast nook provides their own unique twist on classic menu items like chicken and waffles as well as offers its own Filipino favorites dishes like banana ketchup and spam covered Filipino fries. Before you leave, take a photo with their very Instagramable message board sign.
Tocayo Taqueria & Tequila – Shadyside
Spend your next taco Tuesday at the new upscale Mexican taqueria on Ivy Street. With nearly a dozen different taco options, including octopus, try a different combo on each visit. Wash your tacos down their house margarita Totopo – a combo of Sauza Tequila, orange liqueur and limonada.
New Locations:
Gaucho – Downtown
There’s always only been one downside to Gaucho. The space has always been too small to equip the demand. That shall be a problem no longer, because they’re moving downtown to the old Six Penn location. Say this with me people: Rooftop Argentinean BBQ.
Iron Born – The Strip District
First getting their start at Smallman Galley, this pizza shop has really grown. Also located at a to-go location in Millvale, Iron Born now has a location in the Strip District. Get these deep-dish Detroit style pies while they’re hot!
Baby Loves Tacos – Millvale
Baby loves it and so do I. This delicious taco spot has found a second location in Millville. The new location has said to be three times the size of the taco bar located in Bloomfield that co-owners Zack Shell and Kat Muscianesi opened two years ago.
Hitchhiker – Downtown
Now dispensing some of the city’s best brews in not just one, or two, but three locations, Hitchhiker is opening a small spot downtown along Liberty Avenue between the Fairmount hotel and Heinz Hall. The new space will be serving up the classic brews as well as coffee and espresso drinks.
Opening Soon:
Coop de Ville – The Strip District
It’s been long awaited, but in a couple months, what I like to call “Pittsburgh’s Best Fried Chicken” will open in the Strip District where the old Marty’s Market used to dwell. This delicious chicken comes in a few different varieties, but I recommend the Nashville Hot.
The Standard Market – Downtown
This diverse venue will transform in front of your eyes throughout the day from a coffee bar to a grab-and-go lunch spot, your new favorite happy hour and a full-service restaurant. Moving into the old Sonoma Grille, guests will have a variety of cocktail options in addition to a Pour By Beer self-service tap system. Looking to book a party? Book their private room and entertain your guests with their 27 televisions and game room.
